The Upsilon Sigma Phi – North America has awarded Toronto,Canada as the host of its 88 th anniversary reunion.
The North American Board of Directors, headed by President Chugchug Sichon batch’68 and Vice-President Nitoy Lopezbatch ’65 visited Toronto recently with Roger Rionda batch’56 and Billy Jack Arcebal’58 to work hand in hand with the local Upsilon Chapter host team.
This is the first time in the history of Upsilon that an international reunion will be hosted in Canada. Past reunions in the last 15 years have alternated annually between the Upsilon Congress in the Philippines and major US cities. The major event is attended by Upsilonians from different parts of the world including Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Dubbed as "Otso Otso sa Toronto” to commemorate the 88 th year anniversary of the fraternity, the much heralded homecoming event is scheduled for August 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, 2006.
Toronto Chapter President Eddie Lee‘53 has already mobilized all Toronto brods for the big preparations, starting with the appointment of Brod Noel Cruz’66 as Otso Otso Chairman. Noel has been working in partnership with the Upsilon sister sorority Sigma Delta Phi. Sisters based in Toronto have collaborated greatly in the meticulous planning of the event and as USPNA President Sichon noted, “ the Otso Otso Team is so charged with an unbelievable display of energy”.
This unique partnership between Upsilon and Sigma Delta has led to a dynamic and totally spectacular plan of events including a Niagara Falls and Winery Tour, Centre Island picnic, Toronto Harbour Dinner and Dance boat cruise, City Tours, Golf Tournaments and a Grand Ball to cap the momentous occasion.
The Upsilon Sigma Phi is the oldest fraternity in Asia and is based in the University of the Philippines Diliman and Los Banos. Among its members were former president Ferdinand Marcos, senators Benigno Aquino, Richard Gordon, Gerry Roxas, Gil Puyat, Joker Arroyo, former vice presidents Doy Laurel and Arturo Tolentino.
